What you need first
- A FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor already running with the LibreLink app on your phone.
- A LibreLinkUp follower account, which is free and separate from your main Abbott login.
- A Garmin watch that supports Connect IQ.
- Your phone online and paired with the watch through Garmin Connect.
Setup
- On your phone, make sure the LibreLink app is running and reading your sensor. This is what uploads your values, and nothing downstream works without it.
- In LibreLink, open Connected apps and turn on LibreLinkUp, then invite the account you want to follow with. That invitation is what makes readings visible outside your own phone.
- Accept the invitation in the LibreLinkUp app on the follower account, and check that you can see a reading there. If LibreLinkUp shows nothing, GGlance will show nothing.
- Install GGlance from the Connect IQ Store and add it as a glance or widget on your watch.
- In Garmin Connect, open the GGlance settings, choose FreeStyle Libre as your source, and enter the LibreLinkUp follower email and password.
- Open the glance on your watch. The first reading can take a minute, then it refreshes on its own.
Which account to enter
You enter the follower login, not your own Abbott account. Worth knowing up front, because it is the reverse of the Dexcom side.
If you enter your main LibreLink account, the sign-in may even succeed and then show nothing, because that account publishes readings rather than following them.
The LibreLinkUp account guide walks through creating the follower account if you do not have one.
What to expect once it works
The glance shows your current value, the trend arrow and how old the reading is. Opening the widget gives you the recent curve.
Values arrive a few minutes behind your phone. That is the nature of the path, not a fault: Libre pushes to the cloud on its own schedule, and Garmin wakes background apps at intervals rather than continuously.
GGlance is not a medical device and does not sound high or low alarms. Confirm values with your reader or meter before acting on them.
Common questions
- Does Libre 2 need to be scanned for GGlance to work?
- Your sensor has to be reaching LibreLink on your phone, in whatever way it normally does. If LibreLink has current values and LibreLinkUp shows them, GGlance can read them.
- Can I use the same LibreLinkUp account on several watches?
- Yes. The follower account can be entered on more than one watch.
- Do I need to pick a region?
- No. GGlance works out the right regional server by itself, so there is nothing to configure.
GGlance is free on the Connect IQ Store. Questions? Get in touch.
