How GGlance works, and what happens to your data

Worth knowing before you type your sensor credentials into anything. Here is the whole path, without hand-waving.

Why a relay exists at all

A Garmin watch cannot speak the authentication protocols that Abbott and Dexcom require, and Connect IQ apps are tightly limited in what they can do on their own. So GGlance uses a small server, the relay, that signs in on your behalf, fetches the values and hands back something the watch can display.

That is the honest version, and it is the same architecture every comparable tool uses.

What the relay does with a request

  1. Your watch asks the relay for a reading, through your phone.
  2. The relay signs in to LibreLinkUp or Dexcom Share with the credentials you entered, and asks for your latest values.
  3. It passes those values straight back to your watch.
  4. It records that a request happened: a count, the outcome, and the country the connection came from.

What is kept, and what is not

The identifier attached to those counts is a one-way hash, so requests can be counted per watch without knowing whose watch it is.

Everything counted is published on the live stats page, updated hourly. It is the same data, in the open.

What GGlance deliberately does not do

  • No alarms. It does not push high or low alerts. Your sensor's own app is built and certified for that, so keep its alarms switched on.
  • No treatment guidance. GGlance is not a medical device and must not be used to make treatment decisions.
  • No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for and no profile to delete.

Common questions

What happens to my glucose readings?
They pass through the relay in order to reach your watch, and are not stored. What is retained is a count that a request happened, its outcome, and the country it came from.
Why record anything at all?
To know the service is working. Those counts are how we spot a failing sign-in path or an outage, and they are published rather than kept private.
Is GGlance open about its numbers?
Yes, the usage figures are public and refresh every hour on the stats page, including the success rate.
